READY, SET, SHOW ME

Tableau was developed for users who might not necessarily have any programming skills. While this is true for most things Tableau, it especially applies to the Show Me menu, which helps you achieve first results in no time. The Show Me menu integrates an assistant that makes suggestions about which chart type might fit with which data selection.

With the Show Me menu, you can also quickly build more‐complex charts, such as bullet graphs (see the “Bullet Charts” section).

How Show Me Works

The Show Me assistant analyzes the combination of dimensions and measures that you have selected and suggests the chart type that will work best with your data. To try it, open the Superstore sample dataset, and go to a blank sheet. In the left‐hand panel, simultaneously select the fields Customer ID, Discount, and Sales. On a Windows PC, you do that by holding down the Ctrl key while selecting the fields; on a Mac, you hold down the Command key.
