Getting help
Whether you are new to Linux or a long-time user, from time to time, you'll need help. It's impossible to remember all available commands and their parameters. Almost every command has a --help
parameter, and there is sometimes documentation installed in the /usr/share/doc
directories, but the most important sources of information are the information documents and man-pages.
Using the man-pages
There is a saying, Read The Fine Manual (RTFM), and sometimes people replace the word fine with another less friendly word. Almost every command has a manual: a man-page provides you with all the information you need. And yes, not all man-pages, especially older ones, are easy to read, but if you use the man-pages frequently you'll get used to it, and you'll be able to find the information you need quickly enough. Normally, man-pages are installed on your system, and they are available online: http://man7.org/linux/man-pages.
Note
The man-pages are removed in the Azure images for OpenSUSE...
