Understanding LuxRender concepts


LuxRender works in a very different way to other renderers. When we use 3Delight, we see the render appearing one line at a time, starting form the top. Lux instead renders the whole scene in one single pass, showing the user the full frame in a few seconds. This rendering is very grainy at first, and it gets refined continuously until the grain, called render noise, goes away.

The following screenshot shows Lux at the very beginning of the rendering process:

Notice that the image is visible in its entirety, but it's still noisy. The noise will progressively disappear as Lux computes more light samples.

This workflow is very convenient since we are able to verify important aspects of our scene in a matter of few seconds or minutes. Wardrobe poke-throughs are easily visible; lighting can be verified without having to wait until the scene is fully rendered.
