Onboarding – communication and collaboration with Moodle groups
The first interactions when joining a new class can be used to create a culture of communication and collaboration.
Have learners update their Moodle profiles and set up communication channels
Provide a practice exercise in using Moodle forums and peer rating
Interact and bond with other learners to build identity
Encourage and reward creativity and expression
Set up peer mentoring and peer assessment
Identify individual interests and experience
Appoint mentors/leaders to delegate
Establish expectation of choice, responsibility, and accountability within groups
As an orientation exercise, find a space for the class to sit and have face-to-face interactions. Briefly showcase the work produced by the learners from previous years. Ask the learners to form groups in the area they are most interested and skilled in, for example, graphic design, programming or web design. These groupings will be referred to as "Guilds" or skill-based groups...
