Chapter 16. Unstructured Data

If a form of data doesn't have a predefined structure, then it falls under the classification of unstructured data. These types of data are normally huge in size compared to structured data as structured data is mainly in text form. The following are some of the examples of data that can be classified under the umbrella of unstructured data:

  • Audio file
  • Video file
  • Document file, such as Word, PDF, and Excel
  • Images
  • Emails
  • Text and log files
  • Sensors and IoT data

Now, keep all these types of data in your mind and think of a possible solution for storing the data in such a way that you can retrieve the required information and process it using traditional systems. Take your time. Most likely you will not be able to come up with a solution, because traditional systems are not designed to deal with unstructured data effectively. 

With the evolution of the big data world, more and more technological advancement is in place. These advancements lead to many possible solutions...
