Wireless Security

So, wireless security is basically nonexistent on access points and clients. The original 802.11 committee just didn’t imagine that wireless hosts would one day outnumber bounded media hosts, but that’s actually where we’re headed now. Also, unfortunately, just as with the IPv4 routed protocol, engineers and scientists didn’t include security standards that are robust enough to work in a corporate environment. So we’re left with proprietary solution add-ons to aid us in our quest to create a secure wireless network. And no—I’m not sitting here bashing the standards committees, because the security problems we’re experiencing were also created by the U.S. government because of export issues with its own security standards. Our world is a complicated place, so it follows that our security solutions would have to be as well.
