Description

Unreal Engine's Blueprint visual scripting system enables designers to script their games and programmers to create base elements that can be extended by designers. With this book, you'll explore all the features of the Blueprint Editor, along with expert tips, shortcuts, and best practices. The book guides you through using variables, macros, and functions, and helps you learn about object-oriented programming (OOP). This is an AMAZING guide. Hands down! I have spent the last week watching Youtube videos that didn't really help, they have their place, but they can be super confusing. This written manual is step by step and I am absorbing so much new knowledge for Unreal 5. Thank you again! I really appreciate your hard work. I’ve got this book after completing a video course from Udemy. The book gives you all necessary knowledge of blueprints and their proper use and techniques. No bs and straight to the point. I built a decent FPS following the instructions from the book. On top of that I have even improved some game mechanics adding randomly spawned ammo and health by using the techniques I learned from the book. I think it’s pretty cool.

Unreal Engine’s Visual Scripting is a powerful tool that can be difficult to learn beyond the basics. The authors have done a phenomenal job taking the reader from an introduction to Blueprints and all the way through completion of a full game. The book covers all the main topics you would expect to include the interface, events, actions, macros, OOP, and event dispatchers. Those topics are covered in an easy-to-understand manner with sufficient detail.A large portion of the book walks you through how to use Blueprints to develop a game. Gameplay covered includes movement, levels, player control, particle effects, audio, HUDS and other UI elements, enemy AI, listeners, spawning, and more. The book does not end there. An impressive amount of advanced Blueprints information is covered to include VR Blueprints, flow control, data structures, trace nodes, animation Blueprints, and so much more.If you are looking for a well-written book to learn Visual Scripting in Unreal, want to increase your current knowledge, or want to adopt a game development book for an academic program, this book is for you.

I get tired of googling unreal docs that have only overview level information and youtube videos for one little detail that i need. I look through this book continually and use the index weekly. The author uses real projects that you can start from unreal starter assets and free marketplace downloads. I have not done any of those as the blueprint examples and explanations are detailed enough that when i come back months later i can see and understand more on each page. A great way to evolve your process and see where you have been. I scribble all over the margins and see what an idiot I am later! :)
