Chapter 5. Remote and Lab Tests for Map Creation

To understand our users better, we need to watch them while they use or struggle with our solution and similar solutions. The techniques we will discover in this chapter can help you to design and run any user test. Even if you don't intend to create a map from the results, user testing is the silver bullet to better product design.

Note

User experience testing is the process of understanding real users. By watching them, while they interact with a solution, we gain an understanding. This understanding leads to better maps and better experiences.

In this chapter, we will do the following things:

  • Discover the problem to be solved with real user testing. We will run the test on Samsung's UK website.
  • Define test objectives. We will also get together for yet another four amigos meeting--this time, to define test objectives.
  • Decide whether we want to test in a lab, remotely, or the guerrilla way. Don't worry, UX guerrillas prefer a pub or the kitchen...
