Chapter 12. Animation

3D animation is very popular today. Pixar has made it so with its incredibly successful movies. Studio provides several tools that are needed for creating 3D animations, but there is a lot more to animation than the tools.

The subject of animation is very complex and it would require a book in itself to just describe the tip of this very large iceberg. Instead of giving you an incomplete presentation of animation techniques, in this chapter we will see the essential workflow elements involved in the production of an animation, and how they all work together in Studio. This type of coverage will give you an overview of what is involved in any animation project, what steps are appropriate, and what is best avoided. For example, a lot of newcomers in this sector render animation as movie clips. We will see why that is not the correct approach.
