Edge-based virtual networks
One of the various key features enabled using the OpenStack integration within OpenDaylight is the ability to create a virtual extensible LAN (VXLAN) between hosts and network entities thanks to network, subnet, and port configuration. Using security groups and security rules, you can easily define specifications for groups of ports, either the ingress and/or egress port, within a given namespace, and define rules within the group dictating the allowed behavior.
In this recipe, we will demonstrate network virtualization using VXLAN overlay, along with L3 and floating IP.
Getting ready
This recipe requires at least two OpenStack nodes, one control node and one compute node (you could have more than one compute node), and an OpenDaylight distribution. For your convenience, an OVA image, working with VirtualBox, has been set up to provide all you need to easily bring up the deployment. It contains OpenStack Liberty with OpenDaylight Beryllium.
