Kevin Michael Land's project based book has opened my eyes to an affordable software that is like a mashup of Blender, Solidworks, Sketchup, and AutoCAD into one program. He describes how Autodesk Fusion360 allows one to choose a preferred modeling method when it is most convenient and it is much less expensive than Autodesk Inventor. One is able to download the software for free and run the sample exercises from Github and follow his recommendations for further learning. His book guides readers on how to design a bottle holder from a parametric sketch, a sword from an image file, a scanned figurine from an iPhone app and many others. I would have liked if he had devoted a full chapter to his tool shed with a bill of materials. I appreciated his tips for setting preferences to familiar settings such as Z-up coordinates and Pan, Zoom, Orbit shortcuts. Finally, he shares a link to other Fusion 360 creator's in the Autodesk Community Gallery where I saw an injection molded fidget spinner and a flat pack go-cart model.

Wow! First of all, kudos and a huge thanks to Kevin Land! After struggling to learn another modeling program, I am relieved to find this book. Kevin’s project-based approach to teaching is perfect. His writing is clear, his step-by-step directions are concise, and his friendly advice is right on! He anticipates possible problems and shows how to avoid and/or correct them. In each chapter, Kevin does just the right thing. He tells you what you will learn, he takes you through the process (with clear illustrations to help), and then reviews what you have learned. As an artist, I often find it helpful to create a 3D object that I can manipulate for an illustration. With Kevin’s help, I will be very excited to learn Fusion 360 and use it in my future projects!

As a designer and Educational Assistant, I found this book to be very helpful and useful as it goes step by step navigating the tools and how to use the program. It’s definitely a book I recommend for both personals new to CAD or even long time users because you will definitely learn something new. This is definitely a book I will use as a guide to instruct new students in CAD as well as implement new techniques I learned within my projects.
