Description

As 3D printing gains traction, the demand for CAD experts in manufacturing grows. If you're a fan of Autodesk Fusion and crave hands-on experience with automated modeling, generative design, and the full potential of additive manufacturing, this book is your guide to elevating your design and 3D printing skills. In this book, you’ll learn how to open CAD or Mesh files in Fusion and expertly repair, edit, and prepare them for 3D printing. You’ll unlock the secrets of effective print preparation, learning about print settings, support structures, and part orientation. This book also highlights Fusion’s diverse preferences designed specifically for additive manufacturing. Subsequent chapters will guide you in choosing the right part orientation and position, as well as creating suitable support structures based on your chosen printing technology. You’ll simulate the printing process to detect and remedy common print failures associated with the metal powder bed fusion process. Finally, you’ll leverage templates and scripts to automate routine tasks around print preparation. By the end of this 3D printing book, you'll be armed with the knowledge and skills necessary to harness the power of Fusion for additive manufacturing, meeting the growing demand with confidence.

Who is this book for?

If you're a designer using Autodesk Fusion on a daily basis and want to delve into 3D printing or craft functional, lightweight prints, this book is your go-to. It's also a valuable reference for intermediate-level Fusion users seeking insights into DFAM (design for additive manufacturing) and print preparation. To get the most out of this book, it's recommended that you have a good understanding of Fusion's design features, familiarity with opening CAD or MESH files, and prior experience creating components in Fusion.

What you will learn

  • Use Autodesk Fusion to open, inspect, repair, and edit externally created designs for 3D printing
  • Set up your 3D prints for different printing technologies, such as FFF, SLA/DLP, SLS, and MPBF
  • Use templates to automate your additive operations, including part orientation, arrangement, and support
  • Run process simulation for metal powder bed fusion and learn how to compensate for common print failure modes
  • Optimize Fusion 360's preferences for 3D printing
  • Export machine-specific file formats for 3D printing, such as G-Code, SLI, SLC, and CLI

This is a very detailed book in regards to this topic. Covers many aspects of useful tools in fusion 360 for 3d printing.Important thing to note some tools maybe available in the professional version only but that's not a reflection of this book. This book is a great reference.

Since years I work in the Industrial Additive manufacturing industry (LPBF and SLS) and had also the pleasure to work with Fusion 360, an amazing and inexpensive software form Autodesk that opens you unlimited possibilities. I got the chance to read this book as preview and I can confirm the great passion that Sualp has in Additive Manufacturing and in Fusion 360. The book is a manual that, step by step, guides you from the initial steps till the final 3D manufactured product. Each chapter is a very clear tutorial and covers topics as CAD and STL creation and manipulation, generative design, lightweighting, part positioning and orientation, support generation, automation and process simulation.Highly recommend if you are starting your journey in the jungle of 3D printing, using Fusion 360.

This book condenses what would be many years of trial and error into a simple easy to read and useful guidebook. I especially loved the "design rules for 3D printing" chapter as it outlines the limitations of each method of 3D printing and teaches you best practices. 10/10 I would recommend to anyone just starting out and even to professionals who need a refresher.

As additive manufacturing continues to evolve, the demand for CAD users with manufacturing knowledge is on the rise. This book perfectly addresses this need, providing an in-depth exploration of Autodesk Fusion 360's capabilities in the context of 3D printing. It highlights the relevance of automated modeling, generative design, and additive manufacturing within Fusion 360. The author skillfully navigates readers through the process of opening CAD and mesh files, repairing and editing them, and preparing for 3D printing. The coverage extends to essential elements such as print settings, support structures, and part orientation, making it an all-encompassing guide.Having been part of a research laboratory specializing in additive manufacturing, particularly in material extrusion (fused filament fabrication), I found the content to be not only relevant but really enriching. What sets this book apart is its completeness. The incorporation of tips, tricks, and practical advice makes it a go-to reference for both beginners and seasoned users. The language is clear, and the step-by-step instructions are easy to follow.A great book to have and an amazing resource!

I work for Autodesk. I use Fusion 360 every day to help students at Penn State get better at design. For these reasons, I have a vested interest in making sure content about Fusion 360 is satisfactory. This book definitely is.This guide is detailed and immensely helpful for anyone looking to use Fusion 360 for Additive Manufacturing. There are several tutorials that give the user practical experience with using the various tools in Fusion 360, including meshing, generative design, and simulation.Even if you are experienced with Design for Additive Manufacturing, this is still a great tool to use, as it is useful for developing communication and teaching skills for this software as well.My favorite aspect of this book is its realistic nature. Most of the sample design projects demonstrate design changes that accurately represent an actual engineering project. Edits to accommodate design considerations are shown, and an element of experimentation with various design outcomes is clearly highlighted. This gives the book a great balance between realism and idealism that makes it a five-star book from my perspective.
