Wireless fundamentals
We will begin the chapter by describing the basic terminology used in wireless networks to set up the context for better understanding of wireless technologies. Though these might not be directly related to the configuration of the devices, an understanding of the basic wireless technology and terminology will enable you to interpret the output from the RF devices and communicate better with the RF engineer who will typically conduct a site survey for wireless deployment or troubleshooting.
An RF signal
A radio wave is an electromagnetic wave that is designed to carry information through the air over relatively long distances. These waves have a broad frequency range and are used in different areas depending upon the use of these waves. The use of these waves is regulated in each country depending upon the technology availability and the frequencies used by different communication mechanisms within strategic areas such as defense and telecommunications.
