Performing maintenance prior to the failure of parts and equipment can lead to better service levels in the transportation of people and goods, more consistent production in manufacturing, and improved quality of care in healthcare. Predicting where such failures might occur soon and taking corrective action can positively impact revenue, result in cost savings, and potentially save lives. It should come as no surprise that many IIoT projects are focused on such initiatives today.
In this section, we'll focus on the aviation industry, but the use case has applicability in the other industries we have just mentioned. We'll also refer to this industry in some of the other examples of use cases in this chapter.
