Configuring and managing vCenter Server


If the user wants to configure the appliance for the first time, he/she must first accept the EULA when using vSphere 5.x. Then, the vCenter Server Appliance is chosen and configured with the default settings. Once the settings have been saved, the appliance can be started.

Following are the steps that must be followed in order to configure the vCenter Server Appliance:

  1. Accept the End-User License Agreement (EULA)

  2. Select Configure with Default Settings

  3. Define the database settings; select the integrated vPostgres database or apply valid connection settings for an external Oracle Database instance. Note that the integrated database is not supported for large environments in vSphere 5.5.

  4. Configure SSO to deploy an embedded server or use a pre-existing SSO installation.

  5. Enable Active Directory integration if applicable to your infrastructure; enter a valid domain, a username, and password, eligible to register systems.
