Assessing the competition
Many of the DAST tools we discussed are available and can challenge those we've used in Kali (Arachni, Nikto, Burp, ZAP, and so on) for use in our preferred pen testing toolkit. I would assume everyone reading this book is accustomed to making their own choices based on how best they like to work, so in addition to all of the tool options out there, I thought it would be helpful to discuss some of the alternate operating systems and tool suites that you may want to evaluate before going back to Kali – after all, it is always nice to see how good we have it.
Backbox Linux
Backbox (https://backbox.org/linux, as shown in the following screenshot) is an Ubuntu-based pen testing and security distribution from some Italian folks that may be easier to use than Kali as a general desktop with a security slant. It includes many of the same tools, so it really comes down to whether you prefer Kali's Debian/XFCE look and feel or that of Backbox's more polished Ubuntu layout.
