Chapter 11. Building Public Websites with Force.com Sites

There is valuable information related to application data in a Force.com organization. It can be user, contact, and other business data. However, if you wish to extend your Force.com application outside your organization with limited access permission, you have to use a web application and integrate your Force.com instance with that web application. In the past, the web application could be written in PHP, JSP, or ASP.NET and it needed a web server too. Now, extending the Force.com application to the outside organization is easier with the Force.com sites. In this chapter, we focus on Force.com sites that allow extending the application out into the broader population of users through the use of public websites.

This chapter covers the following topics:

  • Force.com sites

  • Creating and customizing your first Force.com site

  • Best practices while using the Force.com site
