Introduction


In 2006, a small DVD rental company set out to make their recommendation engine 10% better. That company was Netflix and The Netflix Prize was worth $1M. This competition attracted many engineers and scientists from some of the largest tech companies around the world. The recommendation engine for the winning participant was built with machine learning. Netflix is now one of the leading tech giants when it comes to streaming data and recommending to its customers what they should watch next. 

Ratings are everywhere these days, no matter what you are doing.
