This book captured me from the first part of the preface. "Here is the simple truth about AI: AI will do exactly what you train it to do." Too many books that discuss AI buy into the hype. I'm glad to see a book that focuses on AI and data literacy does not.AI is at the same time a hot new topic and a decades-old research field. Many of the technologies we use today are based on techniques from the 1950's and 60's. It's just now that AI-based technology is going mainstream. This requires us humans to know more about it to keep up.Three are certain AI books that I recommend to newcomers to the field. This book is now on that list. I would even say that it's one of the first books that I think people should read. While the AI portion focuses on machine learning, the part of AI that's currently being hyped, the overall book is a great read. It is well-organized and covers nearly everything that I would want someone to know.If you're interested in the state of AI and data literacy, are new to data and want to know more, or are preparing for a career in AI, please read this book from beginning to end.

Again, I am grateful for the invitation from Packt and Monika Sangwan, which allowed me to review "AI & Data Literacy" by Bill Schmarzo."AI & Data Literacy" is an insightful guide that emphasizes the significance of making informed decisions and creating value in business through AI and data literacy. It covers various critical areas, including data collection, data privacy, analytics literacy, data monetization, the functioning of AI, and ethics of AI adoption. What sets this book apart from typical BI resources is its comprehensive and future-oriented perspective. It not only equips readers with data analysis and project management skills but also provides essential knowledge and ethical considerations for navigating the complexities of AI and data-driven decision-making.One intriguing aspect of the book is its step-by-step approach to creating value in business. The simplicity of defining "value" (KPIs), developing a MVP (minimum viable model), and scaling makes it easy to understand, but the execution can be challenging. Bill does an excellent job of explaining and realizing this approach in a practical manner. The book is suitable for anyone looking to adopt data and AI in their business. Even as an individual contributor in my current role, I found valuable insights that help me express better opinions and become a more effective influencer.Overall, "AI & Data Literacy" is a highly recommended resource that offers actionable guidance and knowledge for anyone seeking to harness the power of data and AI in the business world.

As a data analyst with some data science experience, I found this book really informative. It draws together threads on areas like data literacy, privacy and ethics that I’ve been aware of individually but not always thought of collectively, and there are some very eloquent summaries different technologies and types of analysis for example the differences between data analysis and data science and how descriptive, predictive, prescriptive and autonomous analytics technologies fit together. You can read this book a bit like a cookbook, where you just pick out individual chapters that you’re interested in, I found it more constructive to read it cover to cover. The book is structured around a framework that guide the reader through a set of rules, principles, and concepts in order to understand the different components of becoming a citizen of data science, ensuring the reader has the skills and training to thrive in a world dominated by AI and data. While the book is undoubtedly a technical one its written in such way that any reader should be able to understand the concepts behind analysis, Big Data and AI, empowering them to join the AI conversation that is shaping all of our futures. One of the biggest benefits of reading the book I found was that draws on the authors ability to join the dots, giving insights into how small changes in areas like the internet of things change big data and what implications that might have for AI, or how something works in retail or business analytics may be very different if applied to medicine or banking.Having read the book, i’ll think differently when it comes to clicking the ‘accept cookies’ box on websites without properly considering who I’m giving my data to, what data it is I’m giving away and how the data might be used in the future to influence my behaviour!

Can I download the code files for Early Access titles? Chevron down icon Chevron up icon

We try to ensure that all books in Early Access have code available to use, download, and fork on GitHub. This helps us be more agile in the development of the book, and helps keep the often changing code base of new versions and new technologies as up to date as possible. Unfortunately, however, there will be rare cases when it is not possible for us to have downloadable code samples available until publication.

When we publish the book, the code files will also be available to download from the Packt website.

The publication date is as accurate as we can be at any point in the project. Unfortunately, delays can happen.
