The book is a great way to start with Spring Boot and React. I am already familiar with Spring Boot, but it was great to see a book with the latest version and with everything in one place. It was great how the Author explains what each annotation is used for because Spring Boot is full of them!Also, something different here was the use of MariaDB. I'd not used it before but had been looking at their Cloud offering. So it was great to see it being used in the book.I've been wanting to get started with the basics of React for UI development, and this book was perfect as it combined it with Spring Boot.Glad I went through it!

As part my development as a Java developer / Fullstack developer it is essential that you create a basic restful backend service using springboot and a database of choice. Secure this using spring security and then deploy to a suitable service. Next create your React frontend for user interaction using Json Web Tokens(JWT) for security etc. This took me around two months of work and googling to put it all together in a professional way... with some tests! This is basically what most Java developers will be doing, and once you have done this you will know the basics and have a mental model of what goes on in a corporation and be able to apply what you have learnt from creating your own application.Juha's book does all this and more... the best and most up-to-date use of spring had me scrolling through the text sighing that this is just making it too easy for the developers. No out of date examples with use of Springboot 1.0 which is common when searching Stackoverflow. The examples are very clean and leave you with a professional application to add to your portfolio and certainly a good example to look back on to see how it should be done. The front-end section using React gives a good tutorial and the obligatory weather-app example before joining it up to the previously created back-end.The deployment comes next, which can be tricky but it is all explained simply and you aren't left wondering about those csrf (Cross-site request forgery) errors that keeps developing fiddling with the code for hours.Very few issues with this book, only the use of super() :)Who is this for.... any junior developers looking to get an appreciation of a full-stack application. Those developers moving from frontend or backend to cover more of a full-stack role.I can't recommend this book highly enough it will have saved you days of googling to come up with something similar and you will have an understanding of the correct way to do something and why you needed to do it.

"Spring Boot & React" Is a great read for beginner to advanced level developers. This book is nicely divided into two parts both frontend and backend. The author Juha Hinkula clearly articulates the best ways to combine Spring Boot & React in 2022. The examples are given within and are very much applicable to real world web application industry development. I highly recommend this book to both practicing web developers to freshen up on their skills and for new developers getting their feet wet in web development as a challenge to grow.About Ian: Ian Halfpenny is a Software Engineer with over 10+ years of professional experience. This book is awesome for developers tarting to get the interest on Spring Boot and React, as a full stack developer with these technologies that are a hit on the marquet this can be apretty good start to catch the topic, it was great to see a book with quality content and latest version I think is a pretty awesome feature, the tecnology is always updating day by day and sometimes is kind of hard to get the lastes version in a book. If you are dealing with Spring anotations and hard time undestanding them this book is for you.Probably the only think I can see is the basic knowlege on React on it, or probably it was for me after have more than time working on UI with react, but having the base you can impruve and look for new implementacions. In general I can said was an interesting book !
