I'm a professional editor and I've predominantly worked in Adobe Premiere but I've swapped out to cutting in resolve for my own stuff/any side work I can. This guide is a fantastic resource for editors to use if they want to make the switch to Resolve.It covers just about everything you will need to know to get up and running. While working through the guide I realized the bolded words and the next section would be just about to answer any questions popping into my head while reading.The descriptions and examples are concise and clear without a lot of the overly verbose flavor text a lot of guides and blogs have a tendency to indulge in. That isn't to say the content comes across as clinical or boring. The content is creative and I feel the team that put this together took a lot of care to make sure each and every character/word put in front of you was the most succinct way to describe a function or process.I love resolve and its general feel. Those that made this guide clearly do too. If you want to jump in or just want to reinforce what you haven't touched on in a while--this guide is for you.

It took me quite a while to even grasp the essentials of Resolve, even coming from a background using Adobe Premiere for editing. It's a beast of a program, and I would not be hyperbolic in saying that I was really just scratching the surface with my stumbling through.As a result, this book proved to be a great help; as with all of my experiences with Packt products, the author is not only knowledgeable in the topic but an effective communicator of that information as well.Taking my essential knowledge and elevating it to the next level, this book goes into not only the essentials of cutting and arranging footage, but also into the (often less intuitive) realms of good audio design, subtitling, and visual elements, among many others.If you are a video creator using limited, basic software who wants to step up your capacity, this will be invaluable. Likewise if you're an experienced editor in something like Premiere who finds themselves wanting or needing to make the jump over to Resolve, you'll still find this useful.A big tip of the hat to Lance and the Packt team for putting out a great book!

"Video Editing Made Easy with DaVinci Resolve 18" is comprehensive and well-written guide to Davinci Resolve. I am a professional cinematographer and colorist and found this book to have everything a beginning and intermediate Resolve user needs to get started and to explore the program. Resolve is a notoriously dense application with many, many features and this book does a fantastic job of guiding a novice through the process of importation of media, rough cuts, editing, titles and graphics, sound editing and final delivery. Each feature is clearly explained and accompanied by step-by step-processes that allow the user to work along with the book. The book is up to date with the current version of Resolve (v18) so it's a great introduction to many new features. The book also covers some topics that relate to general video and film production (such as microphones, voice dubbing and ADR, for example) that tie together with Resolve's capabilities. Other topics covered are color science, classic editing techniques, split screens, green screen keying, etc. Overall, the book is a fantastic resource for anyone learning Resolve and as a reference for users who are already familiar with the program. I can see this book would make a great textbook for a college level course in film and video post-production. Highly recommended.
