Summary

In this chapter, we introduced the proxy pattern using API Gateway from AWS. We walked through multiple examples of mimicking a legacy API using an existing RESTful URL as an HTTP integration. You learned the four stages of API Gateway method execution and some of the details surrounding each of those integration points. We also discussed the proxy pattern when integrating with an AWS Lambda function, which provides a bit more control at the expense of more maintenance.

Readers should understand the proxy pattern and have a rough idea of how to implement this themselves using API Gateway after this chapter.

In the next chapter, we'll move our focus from web application patterns to those for data processing.
