I like that the book started with how to set up Braket, beginning with how to create an AWS account, and how to set up ancillary AWS services like S3 and Notebook. There are enough examples to try for first-time users. While running the experiments, the reader can delve into the background of the devices, like annealing-based ones or those based on quantum gates. Chapter 3 details the tasks setups, device costs, and billing. Chapter 4 gets the reader writing their first quantum experiments using Braket codes. Chapters 5, 6, and 7 focus on developing codes for Quantum Annealer, Gate-based quantum computing use cases. Chapter 8 deals with Hybrid Algorithms and optimization, while chapter 9 explains how to run QAQA on simulators, particularly on Amazon Braket devices. Examples include optimizing an 11x11 matrix, 34x34 matrix, and 38x38 sparse matrix. Section 3, chapters 10 through 12, delve into real-world use cases like single-objective and multi-objective optimization.I can say that in 2 weeks, by following this book as a guide, I am very comfortable navigating and writing code for quantum experiments using Amazon Braket. I highly recommend this book and hope Alex will continue to update the contents as new features (and backend devices) are added to the Amazon Braket Service.

This thorough and engaging book opens with a detailed account of the various ways of working with Amazon Braket, in particular leveraging AWS. Next we are treated to a study of the various hardware devices that Braket runs on, including D-Wave, IonQ, Rigetti, Oxford circuits and simulators. This is followed by a discussion the fine points of how to work with these devices, including the important topic of costs. A major strength of the book, and an unusual feature, is that before addressing the standard topics of working with qubits and algorithms for gate-based computers, the author delivers a fine exposition of the use of a quantum annealerQuantum computing is then discussed in the practical terms of a fascinating range of real-world use cases.The quantum computing revolution is approaching, and this enthralling book should do much to bring the potential and power of Amazon Braket to a wide audience.

As a high-school student exploring the realm of quantum computing, almost all online content is befuddling or too advanced: I haven't really touched the higher levels of linear algebra, nor am I an expert in quantum mechanics. I have a novice-level understanding of the math and physics behind quantum computing. As such, I've stuck with the software side of things since my introduction to quantum around 3 years ago. Alex was a great mentor for me throughout my quantum journey, as he taught me, in a summer enrichment course through Harrisburg University, the basics of quantum: from what a qubit was to the implementation of Shor's algorithm. Without his help, I would have never gotten where I was.This book is both an amazing introduction to the realm of quantum software, and also a great resource to refer to when working in the quantum software field. Currently, I am researching the Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm, and Alex's book has been an invaluable resource as I navigate this difficult concept. From creating the BQMs to applying them to the algorithm --- It's all in here! I would definitely recommend the book to anyone even remotely interested in the field of quantum software. I've read many books on quantum throughout these past few years, and none come close to the information and reliability on the topic of Amazon Braket and quantum software in general that this piece provides.
