Introducing EBS
EBS is an AWS block storage service that provides block-level, persistent storage volumes for EC2 instances. EBS volumes are a highly available and reliable storage solution. An EBS volume can be attached only to the EC2 instances running in the same AZ. It provides persistent storage and it is independent from the EC2 instance. That means the data on the EBS volume remains intact even if the instance is restarted. AWS charges for the allocated EBS volume sizes, even if the volume is not attached to any instance. Also, charges are based on the allocated volume size and not based on how much data is stored on the volume. EBS volumes can be formatted into the desired block size and filesystem. It is very suitable for the read and write, such as database application or throughput of intensive workloads such as big data.
