We will explain what the microservice pattern is by explaining the monolithic pattern initially—a monolithic application is made as a single part. Business applications are usually built in three main parts—a client interface (visual layer), a database (usually, a relational database system), and a server application. The server application takes care of requests, performs all processing, performs queries and updates to the database, and ultimately it sends data to the client's visual layer. This server application is monolithic—a single, logical, executable drive. Any change to the system is to publish a fresh version of the server application.
