Version one – sidebar layout

We'll start off slow with the vanilla sidebar layout, just to establish the building blocks of our dashboard. Because we're not doing too much in the way of features or layout in this first application, we'll add a few visual bells and whistles. Some of them will be dropped in later versions of the application just to stop the code and UI from becoming too cluttered, but you can of course write an application yourself with all of the UI elements in if you wish so.
