In order to better understand the layout functions in particular, we're not going to add any functionality in this chapter. We'll start off with the vanilla Google Analytics application we saw in Chapter 2, Building Your First Application, and will apply different types of layout to it, so you can see how they work. As we progress, we will add one or two extra features (querying client data from the browser and another type of map). However, we will mainly focus on looking at the same application but with different types of layout function applied to it.

It is highly recommended that you download and run all the code in this chapter, so you can get a better sense of how the applications work as well as seeing the server.R code in each case, which won't be repeated for each application.
