Creating a custom baseline
A baseline is a standard that you compare a vSphere object against for compliance. Certain baselines are created by default, that is, predefined; alternatively, a custom baseline can also be created, tailored to the requirements. In this recipe, we shall walk through creating a custom recipe.
How to do it...
- Log in to vCenter and navigate to the
Home
page. Click on theUpdate Manager icon, as shown here:

- Click on the
Manage
tab. Click theHosts Baselines
tab, and then click onNew Baseline...
. - Provide a name for the baseline and click on
Next
,as depicted in the following screenshot:

- Click on the
Dynamic
baseline radio button:

- Provide the relevant criterion, as demonstrated in the following screenshot. Here we select VMware Inc. patches that are of
Critical
severity and theSecurity
category associated withembeddedEsx 6.0.0
and clickNext
:

- Leave at default, since we do not want to exclude any of the patches:

- Click on
Finish
in theReady to complete
screen:
