ALTERNATIVE MAP SERVICES
The Map menu gives you a choice of what type of background map to use for your visualization:
Tableau When you are connected to the internet, you can use the default maps, which are provided by the free Wiki project OpenStreetMap (OSM). The maps from OSM are very detailed and always up to date; many volunteers worldwide contribute to the open geodatabase on which these are based.
Offline Maps Should you find yourself without an internet connection, you can also switch to the offline maps that are included with your installation of Tableau Desktop. To do so, from the Map menu, choose Background Maps, and select Offline. Note, however, that these maps are not as detailed as the online maps.
Map Services If you are not happy with these out‐of‐the box maps, you can replace them with custom maps from other online map services. In the Map menu, select Background Maps and then Map Services. You can now connect to any Web Map Service (WMS) server you have...
