Chapter 3. Introducing the TCP/IP

In this chapter we will focus our attention on the TCP/IP Suite. It was created and implemented by the DoD, so in case of a calamitous event, that our data and communication would be intact. I will cover protocols that use TCP/IP and you will learn throughout this book, how to design very solid, dependable and secure network using Cisco Routers and Switches.

I will begin by looking at the DoD's version of the TCP/IP model, there are two of them and we will compare them both to the OSI model in how the layer map over to each other.

One very exciting topic we will also start covering in this chapter is the wonderful world of IPv4 addressing. We will learn:

What is an IP address?
How classify an IP address,
The difference of public and private IP addressing and much more
