Let's migrate
As mentioned in the previous chapter, we can migrate our smart contracts to various Ethereum blockchains using Geth. So, let's cover how to migrate to various Ethereum networks with Parity.
Firstly, what does it even mean to migrate
a contract? Migrating simply means putting your contract on a specific Ethereum network so that it is accessible to and usable by others, be it other humans or computers.
Note
You will often see the word deploy being used instead of migrate. In the context of smart contracts and decentralized applications, and Ethereum, just know that the words deploy and migrate are interchangeable.
First, let's do some housekeeping to prepare for the work we will be doing in this chapter:
- Create a new folder called
chapter4
. - Copy all of the contents from
chapter3
intochapter4
. - Perform the Build Steps to ensure that the project runs and works as expected (it should be no different to the projects in the first, second, and third chapters):
cd chapter4
rm -rf build
truffle...
