I am an AI consultant at aibusinessinstitute.com. This book is filled with so many insightful (if not groundbreaking) ideas. Lots of Big Data and AI books cover the HOW part but never bother to answer WHY and WHAT. I've been searching for a framework to estimate the business value of AI and Big data. I can't find one so I build my own signature framework. This book complements my framework by viewing AI and Data from Economic Value Perspective. The concept of AI as an appreciated asset is coined by Elon Musk. And only Schmarzo elaborates that concept further.

I was offered the opportunity to review this book by Packt. I have previously reviewed for them and find they engage well experienced authors. In this case the author has taken on the task of guiding us through the quickly evolving digital and data transformation, building value for organizations.A key line - noted up front as well - fully discloses that data analytics is not an A B C process. ("Data science is about identifying variables and metrics that might be better predictors of performance.") Being “data driven” is - as another key COVID term “Now more than ever” - in importance.As a connection wrote “Business decision-making has changed more in the past six months than inthe previous sixty years.” (Eugene Roytburg, Ph.D) This book takes the best static time stab at the effort of making data usable in this type of context, rapid yet reliable decision making.I’m still digesting the book and the infographics. The cheat sheet/summary in the Appendix is a value added guide and review tool for the journey. The book brings together a plethora of areas to review, information, studies, and methodologies … I’ve already gone back and searched a few things I’d like to read more on. I’ve enjoyed reading through … I’ll put this on my digital bookshelf.

Recommended by Kirk Borne on Linkedin, I knew the book when there were just 1 or 2 reviews on Amazon. I am glad that I made the decision to buy this book! It turns out to be a great asset, helping me to think strategically about how to evaluate data value, how to frame an analytic project, and more importantly, the economics laws that drive the digital transformation of the whole world. I love this best from the book: " it isn’t the volume of data that one monetizes, it’s the granularity at the level of the individual that one monetizes." A great book I would recommend to all data practitioners!
