The dashboard components

As mentioned earlier, one dashboard can contain up to 20 components, and each component can be present in the form of a chart, a matrix, or a table.

The two main steps to build a dashboard are as follows:

1. Select a report as the data source.
2. Select the component type.

Defining the dashboard components

There are 11 types of dashboard components available in Salesforce Lightning (as of the Summer '17 release):

• Horizontal Bar Chart
• Vertical Bar Chart
• Stacked Horizontal Bar Chart
• Stacked Vertical Bar Chart
• Line Chart
• Donut Chart
• Metric Chart
• Gauge Chart
• Funnel Chart
• Scatter Chart
• Table

We will not discuss all the types of components, but let's discuss a few of them.

Tables

Tables are useful in presenting information in an easy-to-scan format. Charts give dashboard readers information at a glance, and tables give more details. Add a table to your dashboard to show the data in summary, as shown in the following screenshot:
