As Cloud infrastructure, DevOps and Cloud-native architectures continue to develop, running applications on multiple clouds and, thereby, reducing the dependency on a single Cloud provider is likely to become more prevalent. As such, “Multi-Cloud Handbook for Developers” ( Packt , 2024) by Subash Natarajan and Jeveen Jacob is an excellent manual to guide you on your journey. This book, while requiring some knowledge of Cloud, is accessible and provides value to developers, development leaders and executives. Ideas and concepts are explained clearly and there are many case studies and guidelines to help readers understand the opportunities at both a strategic and a tactical level. The book is divided into four parts, with the first being an introduction to multi-cloud models, their significance, as well as their challenges and complexities. The principles of cloud-native architecture are outlined, together with the overviews of the core building blocks of microservices, API gateway and service mesh. Part two provides a guide to the process of designing and developing cloud native applications that are optimized for multi-cloud environments. This section covers cloud-native design patterns, domain-driven design, data management and observability, together with detailed architecture diagrams, together with benefits and tradeoffs of the different design approaches.Part three is focused on the management and operations of cloud native, multi-cloud applications, discussing best practices on data management, security and compliance. This part of the book also covers the important topics of troubleshooting multi-cloud applications, as well as maximizing financial value and minimizing operational costs in a multi-cloud environment, which is often not given sufficient focus during the application design and development phase.Part four explores case studies, blueprints and lessons learned from previous cloud native and multi-cloud implementations, providing actionable nuggets that readers can implement in their own projects. Also covered are the practical steps required to successfully implement a multi-cloud application, together with a hands-on exercise of building an e-commerce application with a multi-cloud architecture. Also covered in part four is an exploration of how evolving technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing could impact multi-cloud, and how a focus on continuous learning and development can help to future-proof multi-cloud environments and developer skills.Overall, “Multi-Cloud Handbook for Developers” (Packt, 2024) is an excellent guidebook. It offers a high-level view of the different strategies and approaches, and provides real-life case studies showing how corporations have achieved their multi-cloud goals, with lessons learned, implementation details, and how the change created success. If you are looking for a practical companion to join you on your journey to multi-cloud greatness, then this is the book for you.

Getting into the multi-cloud environment seems a lot more challenging than it should be. When you think of on-prem as your server, and cloud as someone else's server, than multi-cloud is several people's servers. The challenge for that is that every individual wants to set up the approach slightly differently. Then, how do you approach the different items to maintain consistency? Its like you were running a windows, a mac, and a Linux machine on your desk. This book does a great job in presenting the use-cases for which things should be multicloud, showing some best practices, and helping you along the way. An excellent reference in bringing all the needed items into the same spot.

Can I download the code files for Early Access titles? Chevron down icon Chevron up icon

We try to ensure that all books in Early Access have code available to use, download, and fork on GitHub. This helps us be more agile in the development of the book, and helps keep the often changing code base of new versions and new technologies as up to date as possible. Unfortunately, however, there will be rare cases when it is not possible for us to have downloadable code samples available until publication.

When we publish the book, the code files will also be available to download from the Packt website.

How accurate is the publication date? Chevron down icon Chevron up icon

The publication date is as accurate as we can be at any point in the project. Unfortunately, delays can happen. Often those delays are out of our control, such as changes to the technology code base or delays in the tech release. We do our best to give you an accurate estimate of the publication date at any given time, and as more chapters are delivered, the more accurate the delivery date will become.

How will I know when new chapters are ready? Chevron down icon Chevron up icon
