There's not that many Grafana books out there so this one serves an important purpose and does it well I think. I like this book a lot - I tried many (but not all) of the examples; there are a few typos, images (B/W) are out of focus and small so that detracts. Also, the author has a style of describing things for which there is no diagram or figure. I understand that, since the book would explode otherwise. There were a few statements or paragraphs that I was unable to understand no matter how many times I re-read them.But by and large, it was very useful as a basic intro to Grafana. I've been through the online materials like videos and documentation and they were not that great. I like having a text that spells things out rather than formalizing an API or providing a reference. The author does enough, hammering it in more than once often, to show how things are generally done with Grafana.While already out of date (Grafana 8 is around as of this review), there is plenty that is still the same so that was not a big issue. A 5-star review from me is rare, while a 3-star is kind of an indicator of lower quality material. I have a big enough reading list that rarely will you see one or two star reviews from me since I will not read bad books - and I don't review books I haven't read all the way through.

This book is labeled a beginners guide and it really means it. At no point does it seem to go deeper than what you could find with a simple google search and 5 min of reading. I would not recommend this to anyone other than a complete beginner with no prior experience in any dashboarding/use of tools.
